ROOM #13 JR. SCIENTISTS
You may think the students pictured below are just wrestling on a rainy day. Actually, they are demonstrating weather systems. Don't let those smiles beguile you. They mean business when it comes to cold fronts, warm fronts, and stationary fronts.
Our current study is focused on predicting the weather. The students have learned that they don't need fancy-schmancy equipment like Doppler radar to predict what's coming. All they have to do is look at the clouds. Cirrus, cumulus, stratus, cumulonimbus...whatever cloud you spot will help you determine what to expect in the weather department.
Our class learned an original song, Clouds Abound, written just for them. All they have to do is sing the jingle, and they will be able to tell you what's in store in the weather department. Grab an umbrella. Stratus clouds are covering the sky. That means drizzly rain!

Our STEM class focused on buoyancy of water crafts. The students were given modeling clay and were asked to create a molded shape that could support varying amounts of weight in water. There was lots of trial and error, but the students learned quickly the structures that best supported maximum weight. Water, clay, and bolts. What a fun way to spend an afternoon! Take a look below. The raised arms and huge smile indicate SUCCESS!
